Al-Maliki denies visit to Iran
Politics
Following an announcement that the Iraqi PM will be visiting Iran next week by Iranian TV, the Iraqi prime minister's office has issued a statment denying the visit. This would have been the second visit by an Iraqi prime Minister since the fall of Saddam Hussein to Iran. al-Maliki's predecessor Ibrahim al-Jaafari visted Iran in July 2005. The Shia Prime Minister lived in Iran during the 1980's to escape persecution of his Dawa party by Saddam Hussein. Iran has become a close ally of the Shia led Iraqi government.
